Liliana Daunes: buena radio floreciendo en Buenos Aires / Liliana Daunes: good radio blossoming in Buenos Aires

Esta mañana estaba escuchando la radio, algo inusual, la radio en Argentina es terrible, demasiada gente gritando, "cuarenta principales", periodismo de derecha, y repentinamente, la voz de Pablo Neruda. No, no estaba bajo el efecto de algunas drogas o medicación, estaba escuchando La Rosa Brindada, un programa dedicado a traer la poesía y la "palabra" a la superficie.
La hermosa voz, y mente, de Liliana Daunes están detrás de este proyecto, alguien no verdaderamente indiferente a la buena radio, porque ella está en ese sendero desde allá lejos y hace tiempo.
Un concepto para desarrollar cada día, una celebración, un espacio para pensar, música maravillosa, cierto, algo que las otras radios ni siquiera se atreven a pensar.

This morning I was listening the radio, something unusual, the radio in Argentina it's terrible, too many people screaming, "top forties", right wing journalism, and suddenly, Pablo Neruda's voice. No, I wasn't under the effect from some drugs or medication, I was listening La Rosa Brindada, a program dedicated to bring the poetry and the "word" to the surface.
The beautiful voice, and mind, of Liliana Daunes are behind this project, someone not really indifferent to the good radio, because she's in that path since long ago and far away.
A concept to develope every day, a celebration, a space to think, wonderful music, sure, something the other radios doesn't care even to think about.

Gaza y Bombay: el dolor es el mismo / Gaza and Bombay, the pain it's the same

Hace unos días estaba hablando sobre los asesinatos de Israel en Gaza, y ahora, ayer, una horrible imagen llegó de Bombay. Para mi los rostros son los mismos, no puedo ver la diferencia entre las lágrimas de una madre Palestina de un padre en Bombay, llorando por su familia muerta.
No puedo entender que tan miserable un ser humano puede ser, para perder todo respeto por la vida de los otros.
Ahora, todo lo que quiero decir, es que mi cariño está con las familias, los que sufren en este momento de tristeza, en Gaza, y en Bombay.


A few days ago I was talking about the Israel killings in Gaza, and now, yesterday, a horrible image came from Bombay. For me the faces are the same, I can't see the difference between the tears of a Palestine mother from a father in Bombay, crying for his dead family.
I can't understand how miserable a human being can be, to lost any respect for the life of others.
Right now, all I want to say, it's that my love it's with the families, the ones suffering in this moment of sadness, in Gaza, and Bombay.

Urgente: dadores de sangre para Lourdes

Lourdes tiene cinco años y padece una enfermedad crónica llamada talasemia mayor, que le provoca la necesidad de transfusiones de sangre cada 25 días. La única cura es el trasplante de medula ósea de un donante histocompatible, pero no posee hermanos. Al recibir transfusiones con tanta frecuencia, la sangre que le suministran debe reunir una serie de condiciones. De más de 150 donantes que su familia reunió, sólo quedaron diez posibles y, con el tiempo, sólo cinco personas ayudan a Lourdes. Sus padres esperan contar con entre 12 y 15 personas en condiciones de donar sangre una vez al año. Deben ser dadores del grupo 0+. Los que puedan ayudar pueden llamar a la Red Solidaria al 4796-3923 o escribir a este e-mail.

Sí, y Enrique Norris es aún la fuerza conductora en este proyecto, en esta ocasión sólo con su corneta, no hay un piano a la vista. El resto de la banda: Hernán Merlo en el contrabajo, y Fermín Merlo detrás de los tambores.
El jueves 13, a las 21:30 hs., en Cultrum, Av. Triunvirato 4205, 1º, el talento de estos músicos será "redescubierto", espero que por mucha gente.

Mostrando su preocupación sobre las prueba de armas nucleares por Corea del Norte, sí, pueden encontrar las mismas armas en los Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, India, es una larga lista, y al mismo tiempo todos están ignorando la terrible situación en Gaza.
Israel es claramente el "matón" de Medio Oriente, es difícil para mi entenderlo, ¿cómo un pueblo que viene de una historia de sufrimiento está haciendo cosas tan horribles?
Y los asesinatos de Palestinos están fuera de los medios masivos, Palestinos están muriendo cada día, pero a nadie parece importarle.
Pero si, hay una Final de Copa del Mundo el domingo, demasiado que decir para los medios masivos, y tan poco espacio...

Euskadi: el proceso de paz está vivito y coleando / Euskadi: the peace process it's alive and kicking

Entre la hermosa música y nuevos blogs de jazz, hay algo que no puedo olvidarme de mencionar: en junio 29, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (Presidente del Gobierno Español) fue al Congreso para iniciar las conversaciones con ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna).
Como en el comienzo el camino es largo, pero ahora, paso tras paso, las cosas son más claras, y la paz ya no es más un sueño, la puerta para saltar del sueño a la realidad está abierta.

Between the beautiful music and new jazz blogs, there's something I can't forget to mention: on june 29, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (President of the Spanish Government) went to the Congress to start the talks with ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna).
Like in the beginning the road it's long, but now, step after step, things are more clear, and the peace it's no longer a dream, the door to jump from the dream to the reality it's open.

Jazz Club Argentina: bienvenido, nuevamente... / Jazz Club Argentina: welcome, again...

Triste fue la despedida al Jazz Club Argentina, a fines del 2005, entonces ahora es el momento para la felicidad, porque están de regreso.
Comenzando una nueva experiencia, un blog, con artículos e información sobre jazz, con una interesante diferencia con su vieja página de internet, la oportunidad de publicar comentarios, difundiendo el buen sentimiento del jazz en nuestra comunidad.
Pero, con Berenice Corti detrás del projecto, las sorpresas llegarán pronto, eso está asegurado.
Otra buena entrada en la lista de mis links favoritos.


Sad was the goodbye to the Jazz Club Argentina, at the end of 2005, so now's it's time for happiness, because they're back.
Starting a new experience, a blog, with articles and information about jazz, with an interesting difference with their old website, the chance to post comments, spreading the good jazz feeling in our community.
But, with Berenice Corti behind the project, surprises will come soon, that's for sure.

No es un secreto, el jazz en Argentina está creciendo más y más. Bueno, si quieren saber que está ocurriendo, está el blog del periodista Dario Artiguenave, llamado "jazz y afines".
"jazz y afines" es realmente una buena fuente, con suficientes shows e información sobre toda la actividad de jazz en la Argentina.

Roberto Magris & Ricardo Cavalli: uniendo fuerzas en nombre del jazz / Roberto Magris & Ricardo Cavalli: joining forces in the name of jazz

Dos shows no fueron suficientes, pero por esta vez, bueno, eso fue lo que tuvimos Roberto Magris y Ricardo Cavalli, en "Notorious", la noche del viernes, junio 30 (alrededor de la medianoche), tocando algunos standards, mostrándonos la imbatible fuerza del lenguaje del jazz. Dos músicos, un primer encuentro, y la energía, y talento, para convertir "In a sentimental mood", de Duke Ellington, en algo fresco y nuevo.
El estilo al piano de Roberto Magris es original, y al mismo tiempo un sutil tributo a la música que ama, hay espacio inclusive para aprender sobre su tierra natal de Trieste, un sitio de Italia con una curiosa historia, una cuna de intercambio entre diferentes culturas.
Ricardo Cavalli fue el "socio en el crimen", temperamental, pero también con la habilidad de encontrar los huecos para la ternura, con un soberbio dominio del saxo tenor.
De dulces baladas a furiosos blues, músicos en la mejor forma de su arte.
Y para la noche del sábado, julio 1, en "Thelonious", Roberto y Ricardo (tocando también saxo soprano en esta ocasión), juntos nuevamente, con la "ayuda de algunos amigos" esta vez:
Guillermo Delgado en contrabajo, y Eloy Michelini en batería
El gran ambiente de "Thelonious" fue perfecto, el público estaba realmente impresionado por los músicos, y su música.
Nuevamente, la magia del "lenguaje del jazz". Después de la noche del viernes, Roberto y Ricardo, tocando como viejos compañeros, Guillermo y Eloy uniéndose a la fiesta, como los grandes músicos que son.
Un par de standards, pero principalmente material de Roberto Magris, como la hermosa "Il bello del jazz", o una evocativa melodía tradicional italiana, arreglada por Roberto, llamada "Storyteller".
Después de casi dos horas de jazz, blues, buena música en fin, un lenguaje que todos deben tratar de aprender, especialmente, como me gusta decir, en este loco mundo en que vivimos.
Grazie Roberto, grazie per la tua musica.


Two shows were not enough, but for this time, well, that's what we had.
Roberto Magris and Ricardo Cavalli, at "Notorious", on friday night, june 30 ('round midnight...), playing some standards, showing us the unbeatable force of the jazz language. Two musicians, a first time meeting, and the energy, and talent, to make from Duke Ellington's "In a sentimental mood" something fresh and new.
Roberto Magris piano style it's original, and at the same time a subtle tribute to the music he loves, there's space even to learn about his Trieste homeland, a place in Italy with a curious history, a cradle of interchanges between different cultures.
Ricardo Cavalli was the "partner in crime", temperamental, but also with the ability to find the holes for the tenderness, with a superb command of the tenor sax.
From sweet ballads to furious blues. musicians at top form of their art.
And for the saturday night, july 1, at "Thelonious", Roberto and Ricardo (playing also soprano sax this time), together again, with "a little help from some friends" this time: Guillermo Delgado on bass, and Eloy Michelini on drums. The great atmosphere of "Thelonious" was perfect, the public were really very impressed by the musicians, and their music. Again, the magic of the "jazz language". After the friday night, Roberto and Ricardo Cavalli, playing like old pals, Guillermo and Eloy joining the party, like the great musicians they are.
A couple of standards, but mainly Roberto Magris's material, like the beautiful "Il bello del jazz", or a poignant traditional melody from Italy, arranged by Roberto, called "Storyteller".
Almost two hours of jazz, blues, good music at last, a language everything must try to learn, specially, like I like to say, in this crazy world we live in.
